Dr. Paul Ornstein

Donations to STEP in Memory of Dr. Paul Ornstein

Paul H. Ornstein, M.D. was a psychiatrist and an internationally known psychoanalyst.  He survived the Holocaust.  Throughout his life, his work was guided by the idea that therapeutically meaningful changes can occur when another individual is approached through sustained empathic understanding.  He recognized and wrote about how such an approach creates a new and complex relationship that can open and deepen the lives of both people in this dialogue.  Dr. Ornstein died peacefully in his home in Brookline on January 19, 2017 at the age of ninety-two.

He is survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Anna Ornstein, his three children, Sharone, Miriam and Rafael and seven grandchildren, Zach and Noah Halpern, Nicholas and Jeremy Ornstein, Adina Ornstein and Benjamin and Sarah Reid.

The Ornstein family requested that donations be made to STEP to honor the values Dr. Ornstein so passionately cared for.
